NCERT learning objectives for Chapter 2 Class 8th

As per NCERT syllabus, Linear Equations in One Variable is covered under Algebra (which also includes chapter 9 & 14, i.e. chapter Algebraic Expressions and Identities & Factorization respectively). In NCERT Maths book, in chapter 2 of class 8, the students are supposed to learn how to solve:

  • Linear equations in one variable ( an equations where there is one variable with power 1, and consists of an equality sign and thus the expression has a LHS (Left hand side) & RHS (Right hand side).
  • Problem sums; students are expected to understand the problem at hand, assume one quantity as some variable (usually something that we have to find), make a linear equation for the given conditions & solve it.
Official objectives

Solving linear equations in one variable in contextual problems involving multiplication and division (word problems) (avoid complex coefficient in the equations)

How much time you should spend on Chapter 2?

If you are an 8th grader who don't have anyone to guide you or help you out, it might take you a week or more to get a good hold of the concepts and questions covered in NCERT chapter 2.
