More About Class 8 Maths Chapter 6

In class 8th NCERT chapter 6, Square and Square Roots, students learn to find square roots of different numbers using prime factorisation and division methods. But in the beginning, the concept of squares or perfect square is introduced.

In exercise 6.1 students learn how to identify whether a give number is a perfect square or not, and other questions like how to represent a given perfect cube as the sum of odd numbers. In Exercise 6.2, students learn to find squares using algebraic identities and the concept of Pythagorean triplets is introduced.

In exercise 6.3, the students learn how to find square root using prime factorization and in exercise 6.4, square root's division method is explored.


NCERT learning objectives for Chapter 6 Class 8th


As per NCERT syllabus, Square & square roots is covered under Number system (which also includes chapter 1, playing with numbers and cubes & cube roots too). In NCERT Maths book, in chapter 6 of class 8, the students are supposed to learn how to solve:


  • Square roots using factor method and division method for numbers containing (a) no more

than total 4 digits and (b) no more than 2 decimal places

  •  Estimating square roots. 

How much time you should spend on Chapter 6?

If you are an 8th grader who don't have anyone to guide you or help you out, it might take you 2 to 5 days to get a good hold of the concepts and questions covered in NCERT chapter 6.

What books to refer once you are done with Class 8th NCERT chapter 6 questions?

When you are done practicing NCERT questions, there are a few books that you can use to cover questions that are not covered in the NCERT math book. 8th Maths RS Aggarwal and RD Sharma are good books that you can buy after you have built your concepts through CBSE NCERT book.
