 30 multiplication table

The table of 30 can be easily taught by using the concept of addition. For instance, 30 times 2 can be visualized as adding 2 thirties - which gives 60, therefore 30 times 2 gives 60.

How to start?

Make the child sit and tell them to draw 30 small bananas and 30 small apples, and then tell them to count them all; doing this will help them understand how the tables actually come into existence. Through this exercise you will have to make them understand that while adding 2 + 2 is easy, adding bigger numbers by counting them on fingers or drawing them on paper could be a lot difficult, so instead we use two digit additions to make it easy.

From counting move them to two digit addition and repeat it twenty or ten times for each and then present them with the multiplication chart of 30 in the table format to learn.

Use this sample lesson plan

(i) If there are 2 packs of sketch pens each having having 30 colours. How many colors are there in all?

   30

+ 30

------

60

-------

Here tells the child that when we have 20 thirties, we get a sixty. Then make the child say it loud :  30 times two (or 2 thirties) is 60.

That is, 30 x 2 = 60

(ii) Next ask the child, if there are 3 baskets each having 30 bananas. how many bananas are there in total?

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 90

-------

 30 times three(or 3 thirties) is 90.

That is, 30 x 3 = 90

(iii) Now ask the child if there are four classes, each with a strength of 30 students, how many students are there in total?

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 120

-------

30 times four (or 4 thirties) is 120.

That is, 30 x 4 = 120

(iv) Ask the child: If there are five bags with 30 books each, how many books are there in all?

   30

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 150

-------

30 times five (or 5 thirties) gives 150.

That is, 30 x 5 = 150

(v) Ask the child: If there are 6 pencil boxes with 30 pencils each. How many pencils are there in total?

   30

   30

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 180

-------

 30 times six (or 6 thirties) give180.

That is, 30 x 6 = 180

(vi)Ask the children "if there are seven puzzle boards with 30 pieces each, how many puzzle pieces are there?"

   30

   30

   30

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 210

-------

30 times seven (or 7 thirties) give 210.

That is, 30 x 7 = 210

(vii) Tell the children to find total number of bananas if there are 8 bunches of 30 bananas each.

   30

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 240

-------

30 times eight (or 8 thirties) give 240.

That is, 30 x 8 = 240

(viii) Ask the child to calculate the total number of beads if there are 9 necklaces with 30 beads each.

   30

   30

   30

+ 30

------

 270

-------

30 times nine (or 9 thirties) give 270.

That is, 30 x 9 = 270

(ix) Ask the child to calculate the total coins if there are 10 purses with 30 coins each.

30 times ten (or 10 thirties) give 300.

That is, 30 x 10 = 300
